Live at George Allen and Eric Cantor’s Victory Party

7:05pm – Polls closed for the primary at 7:00pm.
7:08pm – I am here live from the Westin Richmond for the George Allen/Eric Cantor Victory Party. Refresh your browser for updates.
7:11pm – Projectors are displaying the feed from the local CBS affiliate.
7:12pm – DJ is playing a mix of old school jazz and smooth jazz. Classy. I dig it.
7:14pm – With 6% of the precincts returned, George Allen has 68%.
7:18pm – With 14% returned, Allen is at 64%.
7:20pm – E.W. Jackson is leading Bob Marshall by 10 votes. Both are third and fourth respectively.
7:27pm – In the 11th CD, Chris Perkins is beating Ken Vaughn 13 to 10 with 1% reporting.
7:34pm – Cantor, Forbes, and Goodlatte are blowing out the opposition.

7:35pm – Associated Press has called the election in Cantor’s favor.

7:36pm – Associated Press has declared George Allen victorious.

7:37pm – Associated Press is calling a Goodlatte win.

7:39pm – Well, that was anticlimactic!
7:40pm – We got them Motown hits cranking. Yeah!
7:41pm – Am I the only person grooving and snapping my fingers to the Four Tops? Yes.
7:43pm – Some old dude is imploring other old people to get down on the dance floor. No one is complying. I am tempted, but it is all about timing.
7:49pm – The bass line in Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” is one of rock music’s many fine achievements.
7:59pm – Folks are standing around and not dancing. I am the dance commander. I command you to dance. Bonus points if you know the reference that might result in me losing points for knowing the reference!
8:10pm – Eric Cantor addresses the crowd.
8:16pm – Former Lt. Gov. John Hager is in the building.
8:17pm – Finally, a couple is out on the dance floor moving to the beat of Kool and the Gang. Celebrate good times. Come on.
8:33pm – I just spoke with a guy from Richmond. I told him I came down from Fairfax County for the party. I thought he was going to show some love to a fellow Virginian. Instead, it only took 10 seconds into the conversation for the Richmond guy to make a snarky, condescending remark about Northern Virginia life and culture and tied it to the regionalism in the General Assembly battles. He said that Northern Virginia has a big government mindset and sucks the government teat for transportation money. Right… Which region only gets 17 cents on the dollar for transportation funding back from the state and has the worst traffic? Which region has pristine roads, few traffic problems, and more transportation dollars than necessary? Uh huh.
8:34pm – Folks, the ROVA vs. NOVA culture war is alive and well inside the RPV.
8:35pm – That said, DMV for life, baby! (That is DC/MD/VA to you outsiders.)
8:38pm – The Allen posse takes the stage.
8:40pm – George Allen speaks.
9:00pm – Allen thanks supporters, poses for photos, and gives autographs.
