Chris Turner for Texas State Representative (D-101)

Chris Turner was a longtime campaign manager and Congressional field representative for Congressman Chet Edwards (D-TX). He was my boss when I worked on Chet’s campaign from 2004 to 2006. Turner was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives to represent District 96 (Arlington, TX) in 2008 and I was a donor to his campaign.

Redistricting has created a new seat comprising of parts of Arlington and Grand Prairie in the DFW Metroplex. There are three candidates vying for the Democratic nomination, one Libertarian candidate, and no Republican candidates in this election.

Chris Turner is the best person for this job. He is a reliable advocate for public education and such advocates are needed more than ever as Texas is balancing its budget on the backs of educators, thus deteriorating the quality of services, failing to address a very high dropout rate, shortchanging students, causing massive layoffs, and devastating the local economies of some of the most remote parts of the state.

Turner is a true lifelong Democrat. Yet, he is not someone who views Republicans and conservatives as evil and unpatriotic. On Congressman Chet Edwards’ staff, he instilled important lessons about coalition building, clean campaigns, and respecting all opinions to all the staffers, interns, and volunteers under his watch. As a State Representative, he is willing to work with anyone to advance the priorities of hard working Texans. Turner has received numerous awards and recognition for his work on behalf of veterans and law enforcement personnel.

Chris Turner was also a key endorser of my campaign to be the 22nd Senate District representative to the Platform Committee at the 2006 Texas Democratic Convention. I won my election on the second ballot!

Texans, please vote for Chris Turner for State Representative on May 29, 2012.
